Summary of available coverage

Harvard Medical offers subsidized medical care through the Harvard University Group Health Plan (HUGHP) and the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA).
Harvard Dental offers online and offline dental care through Delta Dental.

Vision In addition to the vision benefits our medical plans offer, Harvard offers a comprehensive vision care plan from EyeMed.

Disability and Life Insurance Free basic life insurance and short-term disability insurance provide basic financial protection. Additional competitively priced disability and life insurance can be purchased, as well as dependent life insurance for eligible spouses/partners and children.

Health Coverage for Retirees Eligible retirees can choose between a health plan for themselves and for eligible dependents.

The Harvard Reimbursement Program offers several reimbursement programs to provide additional financial protection for certain employees who have high medical expenses in a given year.

Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts Health Care Assistance and Addiction A flexible spending account allows you to pay your eligible expenses with pre-tax money, reducing your taxable income. Health savings accounts are available to those covered by a high-deductible health plan.

Eligibility

To be eligible for Harvard Health and Human Services benefits, you must be eligible for the university’s regular salary and work at least 17.5 hours per week or be paid a minimum annual policy of $15,000. Eligibility requirements for represented employees may vary by mutual agreement.

The following dependents are eligible for the Harvard Family, Dental, and Family Vision plans (employees must be enrolled in the same plan):

  • Spouse or registered partner;
  • Eligible children under the age of 26, including children born, adopted, fostered, married/civil alliance or legal guardianship;
  • Children of all ages who are unable to support themselves due to disability (disability before the age of 26 and continuing coverage).
