Pre-degree Science Entry Requirement.

Admission requirements into Programmes in the Faculty of Science

The Pre-Degree programme is designed to meet the needs of the teeming secondary school graduates in Nigeria. The requirements for admission include: Candidates must possess credit passes in at least five(5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Agricultural Science is accepted in place of Biology for Education and Agricultural Science candidates only), at not more than two sittings in the SSCE (WAEC/NECO or GCE) or equivalent qualifications.

Candidates must have taken the immediate past or present academic year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), e.g. 2018 Admission requirements into Programmes in the Faculty of Agriculture Candidates should possess at least five (5) Ordinary Level credit passes in NECO, WASC/GCE to include Chemistry, Biology (or Agricultural Science), Mathematics, English Language and one of Economics, Geography or Physics. A credit pass in Physics is compulsory for candidates seeking admission into Food Science and Technology, Home Economics or Fisheries and Aquaculture. For other Programmes, at least a pass in Physics is acceptable. Admission requirements into Programmes in the Pre-Degree French Studies Five (5) Credit-Level Passes in NECO, WASC/GCE 0′ Level at not more than two (2) sittings, Including English Language and ONE Arts or Social Science subject. A pre-knowledge in French is NOT a requirement.

Programme Schedule

The Pre-Degree programme is an intensive two (2)-semester coaching curriculum aimed at ensuring adequate exposure to the fundamentals of concepts and preparation of eligible students for university admission.

The courses of study require the Universities Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) subjects which include English Language, that is compulsory For all students, Physics, Chemistry, Biology (or Agricultural Science) and Mathematics. Students are required to choose three subjects in addition to English Language. Chemistry, Biology (or Agricultural Science) and Mathematics.

An overall score of 40% and above in the examinations and continuous assessment (comprising regular tests, assignments and practical assessments) is required for a student to be qualified for consideration for admission into Year One of the relevant degree courses of the University. Admission is based strictly on merit and entry requirements and in proportion to the admission quota of the University for the various courses/Programmes in the Departments/Faculties.

UNICAL UTME Entry Requirement.

1. Minimum of Credit passes in Five (5) subjects including English Language at the SSCE, GCE O’Level and any other equivalent examinations.

In addition to the above, candidates must make the University their 1st choice to qualify to write the Post-UTME Screening Test.

For final selection into programmes, the candidate’s average scores from the UTME and Post-UTME screening Tests are used.

Candidates who scored 150 and above in the Joint Admissions & Matriculation Examination and who have chosen University of Calabar as their First Choice in their application for admission into the University for the 2018/2019 academic session

The cut-off point for admission changes of course form programme to another programme based on the overall performance of the candidates in the programme and is determined by the University before the release of the First(merit admission list).

UNICAL Direct Entry Requirement.

If you are applying to a direct entry program (no previous university experience required), you can select up to three programs on one undergraduate application.

Admission requirements vary based on your previous education and your intended program of study at UNICAL. The Registrar’s Office can help guide you as to your eligibility for admission to specific UNICAL programs.

Once you’re ready to apply, you may complete your application online or mail a paper application to the Registrar’s Office. Whichever option you choose, be sure to send in all supporting documents and supplemental forms.

Candidates with one of the following qualifications may be considered for admission by Direct Entry:

  • A minimum of O’Level credit pass in five (5) subjects at not more than two sittings with at least two prescribed subjects (for each discipline) at Principal or Advanced level. No subject shall be counted twice at both Ordinary and Advanced Level
  • Two passes (in prescribed subjects for each discipline) at the Advanced-Level Examination of IJMB, Cambridge, JUPEB or Institute of Baccalaureate with SSCE/GCE, NTS/NBC credits equivalents in three other subjects
  • Passes in two major subjects in the NCE with S.C.E., NTC/NBC credits or equivalents in THREE other subjects (mainly for Education Courses) and ND. For Education courses,Education may be accepted as a third A’ Level subject
  • Minimum of lower credit grade in National Diploma or National Innovation Diploma and the O’Level requirements
