Craven County Schools is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization that provides educational opportunities for students in grades Pre-K through 12th grade. We believe that every student is important, and that we should work together to ensure that all Craven County students have the opportunity to learn and grow in an environment that is supportive, challenging, and fun.
Admission to Craven County Schools is a critical decision for students. We want to make sure that all of our students have the opportunity to attend our school and pursue their education. We want to create a successful learning experience for all of our students, and we’re looking for the best possible candidates.
To do this, we need your help. We’re asking for your help in selecting the top candidates for admission to Craven County Schools. We want to make sure that we’re selecting the best candidates possible, and we need your help in making this process as efficient as possible.

About Craven County Schools
Craven County Schools is a public school district in northwestern North Carolina. The district serves students in grades K-12 in the towns of Asheboro, Chapel Hill, Durham, and Rocky Mount. The district is part of the Buncombe County School System.
Craven County Schools was established on November 1, 1922 as the Asheboro-Chapel Hill School District. On December 11, 1954, the school board voted to name the new school district Craven County Schools. In 1976, Craven County Schools merged with the Durham School District to form the Rocky Mount-Durham School District. On February 17, 1982, Craven County Schools became an unincorporated community in Buncombe County.
Craven County Programs
Craven County Schools provides comprehensive programs and services for children with special needs between ages 3 to 21. The term “children with special needs” includes, without limitation all children who, because of temporary mental, physical, or emotional disabilities:
- Need special education with instructions to meet the unique needs of the exceptional child. This may include classroom instruction, home instruction, instruction in hospitals and instruction in residential facilities.
- Are unable to have all their educational needs met in a regular classroom without special education or related services.
- They are unable to be adequately educated in public schools.
- Craven County Schools provides special education services and related services according to federal mandates of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the regulations of North Carolina Public School Law, Article 9.
Does Craven County Have a Special program for Students?
The Craven County Schools provides a special program for students, the essence of this program is to serve students with behavioural and mental needs. This program is called “ASPIRE PROGRAM”.
The ASPIRE Program is a shared Day Treatment model, to provide services for students throughout the school day. The staff is composed of school personnel and mental health treatment staff, whose role is to provide quality individualized instruction along with therapeutic services.
Aspire program operates on the same calendar as the traditional Craven County Schools calendar. Mental health services are provided during the school breaks and transportation is provided as needed.
Students in the program are still enrolled at their home schools but attend the ASPIRE building located on the campus of Grover C. Fields Middle Schools. Students carry a full instructional schedule while learning behavioral skills.

Accreditation of Craven County Schools.
Craven County Schools has been accredited by AdvancED. Cognia was formed as AdvancED in 2006 by the consolidation of the pre-college divisions of two of the U.S. regional accreditation organizations:
- the Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA CASI) , the Council on Accreditation and
- School Improvement of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS CASI). Cognia is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that accredits primary and secondary schools throughout the United States and internationally.
In 2012, the Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC) joined AdvancED. AdvancED merged with Measured Progress in 2018 and the organization rebranded as Cognia in 2019.
Cognia has standards and processes that conform to conditions specific to Charter School Authorizers, Corporations, Digital Learning, Early Learning, Education Service Agencies, Postsecondary Schools, Special Purpose, and Systems.

Apparently, the acceptance rate into Craven County Schools is high, this is based on the fact that Craven County Schools has 25 schools (15 Elementary Schools, 5 Middle Schools, and 5 High Schools), a student-teacher ratio of 16:1, and 12,719 students.

Admission requirement into Craven High School.
- 1. Complete your residency determination application.
- 2. Application fee: No fee is needed to apply to Craven High School, submit your application for admission to the college or email the admission department admissions@cravencc.edu for more enquiries.
- 3. Submission of transcripts : Craven County Schools accept transcripts sent electronically through a third-party vendor (such as eScript or Parchment) or delivered in the original, sealed envelope from the institution. However, all transcripts received will require a minimum of 24 hours to process. Official transcripts may be emailed to Student Records at studentrecords@cravencc.edu.

- 4. Placement test : Placement tests are required for admission to some programs. You may be eligible to waive this requirement if you meet score requirements on the ACT or SAT, have taken placement tests at another college or meet certain GPA and course requirements at a North Carolina public high school. - 5. Meet with an Advisor : Visit an advisor to discuss goals and register for classes. You can schedule a virtual appointment or visit Student Services at the New Bern or Havelock campuses. Email the advising department of the school for more information via advise@cravencc.edu
- 6. Register for orientation : Register and attend New Student Orientation. All new students must attend an orientation session online or in person in order to register for courses for their first semester or term.
General registration/admission into Craven County Schools
1. Find your base school: In Craven County Schools, students are assigned to the school of his/her grade level serving the attendance zone in which that student’s parent/legal guardian is domiciled.
2. Enroll online: Enroll online via https://registration.powerschool.com

3. Documents needed to enroll :
a. Copy of current photo ID or driver’s license of the legal guardian.
b. Certified copy of child’s birth certificate.
c. Proof of Residence.
d. Legal custody documentation papers (if applicable).
e. Health Immunization records.
f. NC Health Assessment (for Kindergarten & first-time enrollee forms are located on the district website under Health forms).
g. Home school documentation (if a child was home schooled prior to entering public schools).
h. A current Report Card or Transcript (high school) for your child, if available.
i. Withdrawal form from the previous school.
4. Obtain and submit proof of Immunizations and NC Health Assessment
