The Diversity Visa Lottery was introduced by the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act of 1990 in order to allow immigrants from countries with low rates of immigration to come to America. The visa is administered by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services which has a first-come, first-served basis.
There are 55,000 visas available each year and they range from three to five years. If you are selected for this visa, you can live anywhere in the country, work as long as you want and bring your family with you. However, there are some concerns that this program may not be fair because it’s not merit-based. Here are some facts about the DVP and my fears on the matter.
Diversity visa lottery is a system that randomly allocates up to 50,000 visas per year to people from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States. In order to participate in the diversity visa lottery program, eligible nationals must submit an application on or before October 3, 2016.
The application must also be accompanied by a non-refundable application fee for individuals ($330 for individuals; $530 for married couples) and organizations ($1,600 for individuals; $3,400 for organizations) submitted by check or money order made payable in U.S. dollars only.
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will then select applicants based on their country’s diversity population as of July 1 of that year and send them back their scorecard so they can determine whether they have been selected to receive a visa number. If you are selected as one of the winners, you may need to travel outside of your home country before being able.
The Diversity Visa Lottery is a United States government program by which 50,000 visas are made available each year. These visas are given to applicants from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States. The program was created in 1990 and it has taken place every year since then. Because the goal of the program is to diversify the immigrant population in the US, this lottery is not limited to people coming from just one country.
The Diversity Visa Lottery consists of two parts: a merit-based selection process, and a random selection process. In order for an applicant to be chosen for the merit-based selection process, they must have met certain requirements such as having at least 2 years of work experience within their field or being under 45 years old with no less than 3 years of experience working in their field.

The random selection process begins on October 1st and runs through December 31st of each year. The random selection process is the same as the merit-based selection process, but it’s open to any nationalities that have applied for a visa during that time frame. The number of visas allocated will depend on how many applications came in during that period of time.
How is it conducted?
The merit-based selection process is conducted in two phases. In the first phase, a total of 155,000 applicants are evaluated. After this phase, the remaining 15,000 applicants are chosen randomly.
In order for an applicant to be selected for the random selection process, they must have met one of the following criteria:
1) Having at least 1 year of work experience within their field or being under 45 years old with no less than 3 years of experience working in their field;
2) Being a graduate of a United States university;
3) Being an employee of the US government who is stationed overseas and has been working in that position for one year or more; or
4) Having at least $1,000,000 in assets accrued from any combination of property and cash investments.
Applicants also need to prove that they will not be a public charge as defined by law and that they meet other eligibility requirements set by the USCIS.
My fears about the program.
I am a US citizen and my parents were born in Mexico. I’m also an immigrant myself, living in the United States since 2002. I have always wondered what would happen if my father or mother won the Diversity Visa Lottery.
What would happen to my family if they came to the US? How long would they be allowed to stay? Would they be deported back to their home country? Ultimately, no one really knows how this program would affect individuals or their families until something actually happens.
It’s important for us as a society to make sure that when something new comes into effect like the Diversity Visa Lottery, we do our best to ensure that it is implemented fairly and without any major flaws. In order for these concerns to be brought up and addressed, it’s important for people like me who are immigrants themselves to speak out about our fears and concerns about the Diversity Visa Lottery.
The benefits of the Diversity Visa Lottery.
The Diversity Visa Lottery offers some unique benefits, including:
– Diversity of immigrant population.
– A chance to immigrate into the US.
– A chance to be selected for the merit-based selection process.
Aside from these benefits, there are a few other perks associated with the Diversity Visa Lottery. If you’re selected for the merit-based selection process, you will be given a one-time green card and become eligible to apply for citizenship after 5 years of being in the United States. You will also be able to work without having to worry about future immigration status and can freely travel internationally without risking deportation.
If you’re selected through the random selection process, your chances of gaining a visa are pretty slim as only 1 in 3,000 apply every year. But those who do have a lottery ticket have the opportunity of becoming an American citizen after 5 years of residency in the US. This is not limited by country of origin or occupation so if you’re looking to gain legal residency in the US, this is your go-to lottery!
Conclusion
The Diversity Visa Lottery is a United States Government program that awards 50,000 visas a year, of which diversity visa recipients make up 25% of the total. The program was put in place to encourage immigration from countries with historically low levels of immigration. While the program has its benefits and is the right thing to do as a country, there are also a number of reasons why people shouldn’t be scared by the idea of this program.
