Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) is a two-year state community college in Lynchburg, Virginia and part of the Virginia Community College System. CVCC was founded in 1966 and serves students on the main Lynchburg campus or at one of its off-site centers in Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell counties.

If you’d like to take a course but don’t make it to campus on schedule, the CVCC Distance Learning Center provides student access to online courses and educational resources. You can take courses in various formats from anywhere with online access.

CVCC offers joint distance learning courses through the Northern Virginia Community College’s Extended Learning Institution. Students have the opportunity to take unique online courses and can also choose classes that suit their CVCC needs.

Online Courses: You can access your courses from anywhere with an internet connection. Work on your courses according to your schedule. Due dates are set regularly for coursework, but you can access your materials at any time of the day.

Live Online Courses: You can take your courses online in real time with Zoom from anywhere in the world. Students can access the course from an external center. You see and hear your instructors and course materials, and can even interact with other students in real time. These courses have regular meeting times.

Hybrid Courses: Students experience live lessons with less face-to-face meetings that are combined with online courses. Meeting times and requirements vary. So be sure to contact your trainer.

You are entitled to admission to the CVCC if you:

  • Students must receive a grade of A, B, C, D, or S in at least 67% of all cumulative attempted credits. Grades of F, I, R, U, W, and X are not considered satisfactory grades. **Important. The completion rate is calculated once the program has started and the first credit has been completed.
  • Minimum GPA – Students who attempted 1-15 credits must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 1.5. Students who attempt 16 to 30 credits must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 1.75. Students who attempted more than 30 credits must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00.

Students seeking a degree have a maximum of 96 attempted credit hours. During this time, they can qualify for financial assistance. Once a student has reached that maximum credit hour limit, eligibility for assistance is exhausted.

Program changes do not extend these deadlines. All enrolments in the school count towards the maximum limit, regardless of whether the student received help or not.

Courses can be repeated once. Courses that are repeated several times are not eligible for financial support. All repeated courses count towards the maximum credit hour limit. Transfer credits are counted as attempted credits.

There is no charge for transcripts sent by post. It usually takes at least a week to process, but it can take longer during busy periods. For many of the students, CVCC is their best hope and last chance to learn the skills that lead to a degree or certificate and lead them to a new job and an improved life.

It does this through the CVCC Educational Foundation, which was founded as a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization in 1981 to promote and promote the growth, progress, and general well-being of Central Virginia Community College by collecting donations, increasing visibility, and community building Partnerships.
