It’s simple.
Customers place orders from their desired restaurants through the doordash app or website. They accept the fee they have to pay to the app and also add any tip they want to give to the driver.
The company then finds a nearby dasher and sees if they accept it or not.
A driver is called ‘Dasher’ in doordash. So, if you’re going to be the one who is logged into the app at that time and available to deliver the food, you’ll get a notification to check and accept the order.
You’ll be given 80 seconds to accept the order.
After accepting the order, you have to reach the restaurant and swipe the app. it will let the company and customer know that you’ve reached the restaurant.
There, you’ll place the order as per customer’s requirement and simply wait for it to be ready.
Once ready, you’ll receive the food from the restaurant and get ready to drive to the customer’s location.
After picking up the food, you’ll be asked to swipe the app to let doordash and the customer know that you’ve picked their food.

Even if some of the hotels might be making them wait, that can still be the problem with that food franchise in their city only. So, in your case, you have to get started to know the experience.
Further, there were few reviewers talking about the app crash incidents. They’ve written that the doordash app doesn’t work well. So, this can also be a little shady as everybody else is using the same app.

Before starting to work as a delivery rider, you need to complete some mandatory requirements which i have written below:
- You must be 18 years or older to fulfil the minimum age requirement.
- You must have a source for transportation such as a car, motorcycle or even bicycle.
- A valid driving license depending on which vehicle you’ll be using to deliver food.
- In the case of a car, doordash might ask you to submit your car insurance proof.
- You should have a smartphone to use their app
Once you’ve gone through these requirements, you’ll be able to sign up in the app. But there is another mandatory requirement which you need to complete.
When you submit your information, they’ll ask you to clear a criminalized background check. After that, you’ll be able to complete the signup process to login and start working further.

Doordash Driver Signup And Login
Now that you clearly know all the requirements, you’ll fill up your information on their app to sign up.
Upon submitting all the basic information such as email address etc., they’ll take around 3 to 5 days to review your application.
If all their requirements are met, you’ll be accepted as a dasher in their community.
After that you’ll be able to get started.
Before starting you’ll receive your starter kit after completion of your registration to sign up and login to the app.
Schedule A Dash
You’ll find a schedule tab after you log into the app.
By opening that tab, you’ll be able to see information about available shifts.
You can check your weekly schedule and sign up for shifts as per your availability during those shifts.
it’s completely your choice if you want to take work in a particular shift or not. It doesn’t have any kind of effect on your working and ratings.
Now after scheduling, your app must remain active before the starting time of your selected shifts.
Doordash will send you a notification 30 minutes before the starting time of our shift.
You need to select ‘Start Dashing’ within this time, after getting online through your app.
If you don’t do that, your shift will be canceled and allocated to anyone else.
You can also stop working anytime during your shift. This feature was very helpful in case of emergencies and I had to leave my shift halfway the total time of the shift. It doesn’t even affect your rankings.
Dash Any Time
It’s not mandatory to always plan your dashing schedule. You can start working at any time.
This can help you in case shifts are not available in your area.
So, to catch orders, you need to keep an eye on the map inside the doordash app. Once it turns red, it indicates that orders are open and you might get one to deliver.
If not generally, your map will turn red during peak hours such as breakfast, lunch, or dinner time. That’s when most people need to eat and they’ll probably order through doordash.
All in all, you can get food delivered if you’re online and dashing when the area is red.

Keep An Eye On Promos And Bonus
- $1 to $7 with each dash as incentive in certain areas and specific times
- Keep an eye and drive
- You can get signup promotion in some cities (it’s even $750 in some cities right now while not for all) to get this bonus, you have to complete minimum number of deliveries
- Earn referral bonus. Referral code in your app. You’ll get bonus once your referred driver will complete minimum number of deliveries
Just like working in peak hours, you may find promotional reward in some areas. Or either simply a bonus if there is any. Keep an eye on the money you’re going to earn from each order.
In some cities, you might also be able to win a signup bonus which can be as high as $750. But you won’t get this money right away. Instead, such bonus money comes with a condition in which you have to complete a minimum number of deliveries in a given number of days.
Another kind of bonus which can make you more money is when you refer other drivers to join DoorDash. You can find your referral code in your app. Simply ask the person to use that code while signing up on their app.
Multiple Orders At One Time
When i started working with doordash, i didn’t know that i could take multiple orders at one time.
So, one day when I reached a restaurant to pick up an order, I received a ping to accept another order from the same place. I accepted and then I delivered both orders after picking up food for both customers from that restaurant.
It saves time and gas for driving to customer locations.
Be Consistent
When you’ve just joined the company, I’ll ask you to keep dashing for as much time as you can. This way you’ll figure out the duration in a day when you’ll be getting orders consistently. You need to figure out that routine in your area.
This tip is completely linked to the area where you’re working. So, you have to figure out yours on your own. Lastly, be consistent.
Deliver Quickly Drive Where You Don’t Need to Pay For Parking
Parking fee can eat your profit. So, you can check areas around you and try accepting orders where traffic flow is not much. This will save you tons of time and gas.
Drive for Multiple Apps
There are multiple food delivery services such as Grubhub, Lyft, UberEATS etc. and you can join all of these at once. This will keep you engaged better and you’ll be making more money than usual.
Earn Better TIP
Your way of dealing with the customer can help you earn better tips. While, all the customers might not give you tips but it’s still a positive effort that can help you earn better overall.
Skip Small Orders
You can skip orders which aren’t paying that much. This way, you’ll be making better money with each delivery. While, I’ll not suggest skipping every small order.
Although all these tips work well and it depends on your own working ethics to earn better, I’d still like to share a few bottom lines to keep in mind.
BOTTOM LINE:
- You have to keep the doordash happy by taking care of your acceptance rating. It’s about how many jobs you’ve accepted out of the number of jobs which doordash sent you. So, while trying to earn more, don’t play with your acceptance rating by refusing orders more than usual. You’ll get a warning if you’re doing it frequently while there is “no minimum requirement for acceptance rate”.
- You have to keep an eye on your expenses and earnings. That way you need to pay taxes on your actual income after excluding the expanses. DoorDash will send you 1099-MISC while you need to report your expenses on your own such as mileage
