If you want to get admission into UCSD the first thing to check is the acceptance rate. This will tell you how competitive the school is and how serious their qualifications are.
The acceptance rate at UCSD is 30.2%. This means that for every 100 applicants, 31 are admitted into the school.
This means that the school is very selective. So, if you meet UCSD’s qualifications for GPA, SAT/ACT scores, and other parts of the application, you have a great chance of getting admission into the university.

UCSD GPA Requirement
So many schools stipulate a minimum GPA requirement, but this is often just the bare minimum to submit an application without immediately getting rejected.
The GPA requirement that really matters is the GPA you need for a real chance of getting in. For this, we look at the school’s average GPA for its current students.
Most schools use a weighted GPA out of 4.0, though some report an unweighted GPA.
According to the school, the minimum GPA requirement is this:

- 3.4 with no grades lower than a C for non-California residents
However, in the last admission of 2022/2023, the accepted GPA range is between 4.07 – 4.28. Only 25% of the students had GPAs lower than this.

This may sound daunting, but the truth is most schools don’t actually consider all your scores evenly. For instance, if you scored 1300 on one test and 1500 on another, they won’t really average the two tests.
However, some students still worry about submitting too many test scores. They’re scared that UCSD will look down on too many efforts to boost your score. But the problem is, how many is too many?
From our research and discussion with admissions officers, we’ve got that 4-6 tests are a safe number to submit. The college understands that you require to have the best opportunity of admission, and sitting for the test again is a good way to do this. Within a moderate number of tests, they, however, don’t care how many times you’ve written the test. They’ll just concentrate on your score.
If you take the test more than 6 times, colleges begin questioning why you’re not developing with each test. They’ll doubt your study skills and ability to develop.
But below 6 tests, we greatly support retaking the test to maximize your opportunities. If your SAT score is currently below 1410, we strongly suggest that you think about prepping for the SAT and retaking it. Even though UCSD says they have no least ACT basis, if you apply with a 27 or below, you’ll have a very difficult time getting admission into the school, unless you have something else very impressive in your application. There are so many aspirants that score 29 and above, a 27 will look academically weak.
What is ACT Score Sending Policy for UCSD Admission?
If you’re writing the ACT against the SAT, you have a huge advantage in how you send scores, and this dramatically affects your testing strategy.
When you send ACT scores to colleges, you have full control over which tests you send. You may choose to take 10 tests and only send your highest one. This is unlike the SAT, where many schools want you to send all your tests ever taken.
This means that you have more opportunities than you think to increase your ACT score. To try to aim for the school’s ACT basis of 33 and above, you should try to take the ACT as many times as possible. When you have the final score that you’re happy with, you can then send only that score to all your schools.
ACT Superscore Policy for UCDS Admission
Most schools take your best section scores from all the test dates you submit and then combine them into the best possible composite score. Thus, most schools will just take your highest ACT score from a single sitting.
We weren’t able to find the school’s exact ACT policy, which most likely means that it does not Superscore. Regardless, you can choose your single best ACT score to send to UCSD, so you should prep until you reach our recommended target ACT score of 33.
What are the SAT/ACT Writing Section Requirements?
Both the SAT and ACT have an optional essay section. UCSD needs you to take the SAT Essay/ACT Writing section. They’ll use this as another factor in their acceptance deliberation.
SAT Subject Test Requirements
Schools differ in their SAT subject test specifications. Basically, competitive schools tend to expect them, while most schools in the country do not.
We did not find information that UCSD demands SAT subject tests, and so most likely it does not. At least 6 months before applying, you should still double-check just to make sure, so you have enough time to take the test.
Detailed research into this school confirmed the following information.
You must have a 3.0 GPA (3.4 for non-residents) or higher and no grades lower than a C in the expected high school courses. Also, you can substitute SAT subject tests for courses.
