About NPS Recruitment

The Nigerian Correctional Service which was formerly known as the Nigerian Prison Service until August 2019 is a Nigerian government agency that operates the correctional (prison) facilities across the country.

Charged with the responsibility of taking charge of those legally detained, identifying their behavior causes, and retraining them, the National Prison Service is fully empowered by the 1972 Decree No.9 as amended in 2004 CAP P29 laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and in the 2019 Nigerian Correctional Services Act.

The Nigerian Prison Service has its headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and is headed by the Controller-General of Prison Service, Ja’afaru Ahmed. He was installed as the head in 2016 by the President, Muhammadu Buhari and is directly responsible to the Minister of Interior and the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration, and Prison Services Board.

The Nigerian Prison Service which came to reality in 1968 after the abolishment of the former Native Authority Prisons can, today, boast of about 240 prisons among which are 138 main prisons (for convicts), 85 satellite facilities, 14 farm centers, and 3 Borstal Institutions.

Most importantly, the Nigerian Prison Service (Nigerian Correctional Service) has just one vision which is to establish a credible prison service.

This the service will do through efficient penal practices that a long-lasting change in the attitudes, behaviors, values of convicts.
This is to ensure these convicts enjoy a successful reintegration into society.

Senior Inspector of Prisons (SIP), CONPASS 08.

If you want to apply for Senior Inspector of Prison, you must meet the following requirements.

Requirements

Applicants must have completed their HND programme.

Applicants must have graduated from the following discipline: Estate Management, Town Planning, Public Health, Food Sciences, Social Works, etc.

Inspector of Prisons (IP) Nursing, CONHESS 06.

This position is for nurses, registered midwives. To apply for this position, you must meet the following requirements.

Requirements:

Applicants must be Registered Nurses (RN), Registered Midwives (RM)

Or they must be Registered Nurses/Midwives (RNM)

Applicants must have obtained their certificate from recognized institutions

Assistant Inspector of Prisons (AIP) CONPASS 06.

Applicants must be holders of OND/NCE Obtained from recognized institutions.

Any discipline can apply for this position since none was specified by the Nigerian Prisons Service Recruitment Authority.

(3) CATEGORY C: Assistant Cadre:-

Assistant Cadre category is for drivers, Mechanics, Plumbers, Carpenters, Masons, and electricians.

If you are looking into this category, then you will have to go through their requirements first. Also, you will have to avoid multiple applications as it will lead to automatic disqualification.

Prisons Assistant I (PAI) CONPASS 05

Requirements:

Applicants who wish to apply for this position must meet the following requirements

Must have your WAEC or NECO Certificate

GCE Ordinary Level will also be accepted

Must have a minimum of Five (5) credits in not more than two (2) sittings in their SSCE Result including English and Mathematics or Trade Test Grade 1

Must be interested in the following areas

(Artisans, Motor drivers, Mechanics, Auto Electricians, Plumbers, Carpenters, Masons, etc.)

Prisons Assistant II (PAII) CONPASS 04

Applicants who wish to apply for this position must meet the following requirements

Must have your WAEC or NECO Certificate

GCE Ordinary Level will also be accepted

Must have a minimum of Five (5) credits including English or Trade Test Grade II and in not more than two (2) sittings.

Must be interested in the following areas

(Artisans, Motor drivers, Mechanics, Auto Electricians, Plumbers, Carpenters, Masons, etc.)

Prison Assistant III (PA.III) CONPASS 03.

Interested applicants for this position must meet the following requirements

  1. Have their GCE, SSCE/NECO Result or its equivalents
  2. Minimum of three (3) credits in not more than Two (2) sittings, which should include at least English or Mathematics or Trade Test Grade III.
  3. Must be interested in Artisans, Motor drivers, Mechanics, Auto Electricians, Plumbers, Carpenters, Masons, etc.

Nigerian Prison vacancy Requirements

Before you apply for Nigeria Prison Recruitment at all levels, you need to be aware of the below requirements.

  1. Must be a Nigerian citizen by birth with no criminal record.
  2. Must have WASSCE/GCE/NECO/NABTEB with Credits in not less than three (3) subjects including English
  3. A minimum of B.Sc/H.N.D/ or ND degree from a reputable institution
  4. Must have N.Y.S.C discharge certificate or exemption letter
  5. Age requirements: Candidates must be between 22-35 years old.
  6. Must be medically, physically and psychologically fit
  7. Must be of good character, have the ability to work under pressure
  8. Not less than 1.7m in height for male and 1.64m for female
  9. Candidates with the following disabilities should not apply:
  10. Flat foot;
  11. Sight problem;
  12. Pregnant women;
  13. Hearing difficulties;
  14. Previous major orthopedic operation;
  15. Fracture, stammering or any other natural disability.
